a daughter’s “disgust”

During Christmas break Hannah wandered into my room one evening to borrow some jewelry.

Scott and I were in there reading and working on our laptops.

She went over to my table and looked through the goods – as she’s done a million times before – trying to find the perfect thing for her clothes ensemble.

Soon I heard her sigh and say, “Mother. WHY is everything in here so gawdy?! Don’t you have anything that’s simple?!”

I smiled.
She smiled.
Scott laughed.

Hannah knew what a nice compliment that was for me.

I. Am. Gawdy.

I don’t do ‘simple’. 🙂
