So today… City Market, Fiona’s new friends, caricatured environmentalism and a good farewell

7:30 this morning and we were at the City Market. It’s not quite as filled with vendors as it will be later in the Spring and Summer, but there are still plenty of stands to pick from.

One of my favorite places to stop by is the Dutch Flower shop…owned by a woman with a thick Dutch accent. Her two boys were running around with her. I commented to Scott how nice it would be to raise children in that environment.

Scott filled up at the City Market Coffeehouse…

We ran out to the Loyce’s house to see them before they leave for Africa on Wednesday. On the way we ran into this scene…crazy….

Fiona and Sterling finally met today. I was VERY nervous about it, but they did pretty well together.

Fiona met lots of new friends today…

Anna-Margaret, Jacqueline and Lauren met us there. We all piled in A-M’s car and headed to The Square to see The Lorax. (A-M + McD Coke = Always)

I loved, loved, LOVED The Lorax!! Fabulous. Current day themes we all should learn from. Doesn’t stick to the book, but great messages, nonetheless.

Dinner at Square Pizza. It’s always REALLY good pizza!!

Just as Joyce and Dad get ready to leave for Africa and then Germany/Switzerland until May, their orchid blooms. Maybe a nice good-bye from Glendale to Kenya…

Dad is teaching again at Africa Nazarene University in Kenya. He has been working on class preparations including the planting of 20+ trees on campus. It will be particularly exciting this semester since Joyce will be going too this year. I’m excited for their new adventure together.

A lovely KC kind of day. It was nice to drive home feeling filled with gratitude…

  1. *sigh* the City Market has always been one of my happy places since I was girl and Daddy used to take me to eat smily-face pancakes at Cascone’s with the farmers at the breakfast bar. I adore how you capture my happy place with the pictures – it made me want to paint my hallway a brilliant shade of orange and hang your prints down the length of it just so I can feel like I am there already when I wake up every morning . . . praying for travelling mercies for the Loyce – how exciting!

  2. I love going to the City Market! So many wonderful buys, so many different smells, the diversity of the people, the choices of places to eat. We always love to take visitors here for the cultural experience. It is a wonderful start to a Saturday!!
