The adverse consequences of a single story

As the political environment heats up in the U.S., I found this 2009 TED talk to be refreshing and personally challenging. I would ask you, as well as myself, what ‘political groups’ that tend to be hot button groups, are you viewing through the lens of media, literature or with the misleading broad strokes of caricature-fed (mis)understanding?

Do you have but one single story about them?

Please take a few moments to listen to all of this clip. Then, as you go through the remainder of this year – and certainly throughout your lifetime – sift your initial, reactionary thoughts through the question, “Is this the only story I know of this person? This group of people? What other stories are additionally true?”
